The total number of unemployed persons in the country was recorded 228,000, in January 2013, which was 25,000 higher than the number of previous year, according to the Statistics Finland. The Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey released on Tuesday showed that the unemployment rate was 8.7 percent in the first month of the current year, which was 7.8 percent in the corresponding period of the year 2012. The report, however, said that the number of employed persons decreased in the public sector but grew in the private sector in January compared to the January 2012. Out of the total unemployed persons, about 130,000 were men and about 97,000 were women . Men’s unemployment rate was 9.6 per cent and women’s 7.6 per cent. The trend of the unemployment rate was 8.0 per cent. This January the unemployment rate among young people aged 15 to 24 was 21.0 percent and the trend of the unemployment rate among young people was 19.5 percent. Employment Service Statistics of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy At the end of January 2013, there were altogether 292,000 persons registered in accordance with the Employment Office Regulations as job seekers at the employment and economic development offices. The number of unemployed job seekers was 34,000 higher than in January 2012.
