A total of 68 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries in the second quarter of 2013 marking a 10 per cent decrease from the corresponding quarter in the last year, according to the Statistics Finland.
The volume of transported soil materials increased by 10 per cent and the volume of transport for other goods decreased by 22 per cent compared to the second quarter in 2012.
These data were derived from the statistics on goods transported by road compiled by Statistics Finland.
The total transport volume of lorries amounted to 4.9 billion tonne-kilometres in the second quarter of 2013, which was 16 per cent less than in the corresponding quarter of the last year.
Ninety-six per cent of the transport volume was transported in professional transport and four per cent in private transport.
The data for the statistics on goods transport by road are collected from lorry owners with a quarterly sample survey.
Transported volume of goods refers to the weight of goods loaded on lorries in tonnes.
Tonne-kilometre describes the volume of transport and is obtained as a product of transported volume of goods and length of transport journey.
