Three major investors want Bill Gates out as chairman of Microsoft, news agency STT reported quoting Reuters.

The three investors include Microsoft's twenty largest shareholders, anonymous sources told Reuters.

They hold a total of more than 5 per cent of the shares.

The trio is concerned, among other things, that Gates would prevent recurrence and limit the company's new CEO power.

Microsoft is currently looking for a new CEO in the place of Steve Ballmer.

According to Reuters, there is no indication that Microsoft's board would pay heed to the wishes of the investors.

Gates co-founded Microsoft 38 years ago. He owns 4.5 percent of the company's shares and is its largest single shareholder.
