The nominal earnings of wage and salary earners rose by 2.2 per cent in July-September 2013, compared to the earnings in the respective period of 2012, according to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland.
 
Real earnings rose, however, by 0.8 per cent compared to the third quarter of the previous year, because the rise in earnings level was faster than that in consumer prices.
 
During the period, the nominal earnings of wage and salary earners in the private sector rose by 2.2 per cent, in the central government sector by 2.2 per cent and in the local government sector by 1.9 per cent.
 
Wage and salary earners' regular earnings have increased by 2.5 per cent in the period.
 
According to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland, wage and salary earners' regular earnings rose by 2.5 per cent in July–September 2013, compared to the corresponding period of 2012. The increase was 2.5 per cent in the private sector, 2.6 per cent in the central government sector and 2.4 per cent in the local government sector.
 
Wage and salary earners' regular earnings refer to the earnings for regular working hours exclusive of performance-based bonuses and other irregularly paid one-off items.
 
Index of wage and salary earnings and index of regular earnings are final as far as the year of 2012.
 
The indices are final as far as the year 2012 and they are based on final wage statistics while the indices for the year 2013 are still preliminary.
 
They are mostly based on the effects of agreements and the wage drift.
