The defence authority is set to purchase short-range anti-aircraft missiles worth €90m from the United States of America, official sources said.

Defence Minister Carl Haglund on Wednesday signed an agreement in this regard.

The purchase deal will allow the army to acquire short range anti-aircraft missile system intended to phase out the Russian made missiles.

The agreement will also allow the purchase of hundreds of Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.

Stingers are shoulder-launched short-range missiles which, for example, can be used to shoot helicopters and airplanes.
