Freight handling at the Port of Helsinki between January-February amounted to 1.5 million tonnes, an increase of 1% compared to the same period a year ago.
The growth in exports is expected to continue. Between January and February, exports at the port increased by 6%.
On the contrary, imports have been sluggish displaying a 3% decline over the same period.
One third of the freight was transported in containers and two -thirds by road. Ship passengers in January and February totalled 1.3 million. In February, the number of passengers stood at 703,000.
A recent Eurostat statistic indicated that Helsinki port was the fourth busiest port in Europe back in 2012.
