Rovaniemi residents had their premier spring shopping at the traditional Spring Market set up at the city’s permanent marketplace in 19–20 March with hundreds of shoppers going round about 80 shops.

The Rovaniemi Spring Market has a rich history dating back to more than a hundred years, selling traditional food products such as fish, meat, bread, sausages, candyfloss, fruit and root vegetables. Other items on sales include toys, balloons, mats, clothes, jewellery etc.

With the frost in the air and the grounds still being covered with snow, the marketplace started warming up as customers started going round the shops of traditional and exclusive products at the Spring Market, Mika Sieppi, who ran a shop at the market place told the Finland Times Correspondent.

The Spring Market, which is one of the most common events of spring in Rovaniemi, is held in the third week of every March to offer people a chance to buy traditional fashion items.

Talking to Finland Times Jenna-Riikka Kouva from Rovala, Rovaniemi, said “It is our traditional Spring Market. It is about fun, fashion, spending time with friends and family for more of what we love to do.”

One of the main attractions of the market was homemade food and handmade industrial products such as apparels and handicraft items.

A visitor Antti Pekkala, who took his two children to the market, told the Finland Times, “The Spring Market is the best way to welcome the new season. This market is so lively and has lots of thing to enjoy. We had a great fun.”

Over the years, Rovaniemi Spring Market has been gaining popularity not only in the city, but also across Lapland for its offering unique products, and that took, with a chance for bargaining.
