High-tech exports plummeted by a fifth in 2013 according to Finnish Customs.

The main reason for the decline was attributed to the demise of handset production facility in Salo.

High-tech exports was only 6 percent of the total share of exports totalling 3.5 billion euros, marking a sharp contrast compared to 20 percent of export share on average during the last decade.

The fall can also be pointed towards trade imbalance in the high-tech trade. The deficit amounted to 2.1 billion in 2013.

In the last decade trade balance reflected an annual surplus of between 2-4 billion euros.

The share of high-tech imports also fell last year. The value of high-tech exports stood at 5.6 billion euros which is 6 percent of the previous year.
