Finavia, the authority responsible for maintaining airports and air navigation in the country, is set to invest 13 million euros for the renovation and expansion of the Ivalo airport.

About the same amount will be invested in the Turku airport, but that will mainly go to renovating existing facilities.

According to Finnavia, the investment would be geared towards the improvement of operations in the regional airports.

This year, a total of 35 million euro has been allocated towards the investment of airports in the country.

The development programme is also intended to stir up a new surge in passenger traffic.

Kari Savolainen, the CEO of Finavia, pointed out that passenger growth was not only dependent on airports but interesting tourism products, tour operators and airline companies as well.

Apart from terminal extension, the Ivalo airport runway will also be repaved. The airport will be closed during the paving work in the beginning of August.
