The introduction of contactless payment has received support in Lidl supermarket chains in the country.

Contactless payment card can be used for secure payments to make purchase of a maximum of 25 euro and does not require the entering of a pin number. However, due to spot checks, one can be required to enter pin code.

Sami Pyykönen, the administrative director of Lidl Finland, said contactless payments were expected to increase the rate of transactions and thus shorten queues especially during peak hours.

Already a third of Lidl card payments in Slovakia are contactless payment enabled.

The introduction of the payment system has been received positively in Lidl supermarkets in other countries.

Paula Näkki, head of the consumer cards unit at Nordea, predicted that contactless payment would become popular in the country this year.
