Global air freight markets in February showed a 2.9 percent increase in demand compared to the same time last year, according to data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on Wednesday.
The first two months of this year witnessed a positive start for cargo, recording an overall 3.6 percent improvement in demand over the previous year, as highlighted by IATA.
The organization said that the vast majority of the growth in February was realized by airlines in the Middle East and Europe, which recorded 11.9 percent and 5.5 percent growth respectively compared to the previous year.
As for region performance, Asia-Pacific airliners grew simply 0.1 percent in February compared to a year ago, and North American carriers went through a slight contraction of 0.3 percent year on year.
Latin American airlines marked 6.1 percent growth in February, while African airlines freight volumes tumbled 5.2 percent, continuing the declining trend since the fourth quarter of 2013.
