The 6th European Economic Congress started here on Wednesday. It is another edition of one of the most important business events in Central Europe. The Congress will last until Friday.

The Congress takes place exactly 10 years after the greatest enlargement of the European Union in its history, when Poland became a member of the EU.

In his opening speech, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk underlined that a fundamental part of ensuring Polish and EU security is energy policy. He stressed that Katowice and the whole Silesian region is a heart of Polish energy.

According to the organizers, the meeting is expected to cover topics including energy policy, climate package, self-governments and regional policy.

The Third Forum of European Union-China Economic Cooperation will take place on the sideline of the meeting.
