The European Commission on Thursday published new guidance to help governments invest in broadband technology.
According to a report on the Commission website, the handbook was designed for public authorities investing in broadband or looking at co-funding projects with European Union (EU) structural and investment funds (ESIF).
The handbook outlines the minimum conditions for state aid approval, the commission said.
To facilitate member states in developing broadband, the handbook explains how to design a good project from the start and whom to contact at regional and EU level to obtain funding and advice, as well as the appropriate technology and business model.
European Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes said: "Broadband increases economic growth. This handbook helps local and rural authorities in particular to use adequately public funds to install broadband so citizens can enjoy faster and greater connectivity everywhere." More News
