Industry invested around 302 million in environmental protection in 2012, which was more than before. 
 
The biggest investors were the metal industry and energy supply -- both investing over EUR 70 million, according to the Statistics Finland.
 
Of all environmental protection expenditure in industry, the biggest part was formed by operating expenditure caused by environmental protection, most of which consists of the operating and maintenance costs of environmental protection equipment, said a release.
 
The biggest share, 45 per cent, of all environmental investments in industry was directed to air protection, in all EUR 136 million.  
 
The share of water protection was again the second biggest and made up 28 per cent of all environmental investments.
 
Waste management and soil and groundwater protection had a share of 22 per cent.
