More than half of Finnish car-owners are ready to discard their current vehicles and replace them with either electric or bio-gas-powered vehicles in five years’ time.

This came into light in a survey conducted by the Finnish innovation fund, Sitra.

The Finns also responded positively to the use of renewable energy, such as solar panels and geothermal heat pumps.

As many as 85 per cent of the respondents showed interest in self-produced energy.

On the other hand, only one out six was willing to buy in the idea of car-sharing.

The survey examined the attitudes of Finns towards climate change and the ability to adopt sustainable lifestyles.

More than 70 per cent of the respondents believe that their own actions as well as those of their family members can affect the mitigation of climate change. Most of the respondents reported to have been doing something about the issue.

The Taloustutkimus interviewed just over a thousand Finns in the country.
