The AS Tallink Grupp-owned accommodation ship built in 1993 will be chartered from the beginning of next month.
The vessel will be replaced by the company’s new cruise ship Baltic Queen which currently plies the Tallinn-Helsinki route.
The duration of the charter runs for at least 14 months with an option for extending for up to four years.
The company said the deal will improve its profitability.
The operating cost of running the Silja Europa is high and will be even higher when the sulphur regulation comes into force next year, said the company.
The charter and route changes will bring about changes in the number of employees working for the company. The company however did not specify the redundancy number.
