American wireless solution company Broadcom is to stop its modem business operations which will see 600 people lose jobs in the country.

Some 430 of its employees based in Oulu will be axed.

“The co-determination negotiations are still in progress and we will continue to work until further notice,” said Lauri Louhivirta, a shop steward from the company’s Oulu establishment.

The co-determination talks will be completed on August 6 and after that the company will determine whether to continue with the talks, revealed Louhivirta.

It is especially unfortunate for those workers who are going to hear the news while away on holiday, said Louhivirta.

The company will cut 2,500 jobs worldwide.

Broadcom acquired LTE-related assets from Renesas Mobile in autumn 2013. Renesas Mobile was originally acquired from Nokia.

The news of the lay-off was first reported by the Finnish language daily Kaleva.
