Finnish dairy company Valio has decided not to renew the fixed term contracts of 126 employees upon the conclusion of the statutory negotiations.

A further 50 employees will be temporarily laid off.

Some of the employees laid off are summer workers.

The negotiations concerned 800 employees at the company’s Haapavesi, Seinäjoki, Vantaa and Seinäjoki facilities.

However, no worker at the Seinäjoki factory will be laid off.

The company announced at the beginning of the negotiations that it had no alternatives to the redundancies.

The company resolved to cut jobs following the Russian embargo on food imports from the West.

The company almost immediately embarked on the negotiations after the Russian counter-sanctions.
