Finance Minister Antti Rinne on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over the sale of Finnish inverter manufacturing company Vacon to outsiders.

The Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party-SDP) chief, who is also the deputy prime minister, said the sale of Vacon to the Danish component producer Danfoss is a threat to the image of Finland.

Rinne said whenever a Finnish company is sold abroad it poses a risk for the local job market.

“I’d rather hear news about domestic or foreign companies investing in new jobs in Finland,” said the minister.

Earlier on Friday, Danfoss and Vacon announced that the Finnish Vacon was sold to the Danish Danfoss at a price of more than EUR one billion.

Vacon manufactures frequency converters of electric motors.

“Fortunately, the buyer is a Nordic company,” said the minister, adding that he hopes the new authorities would continue with the Finnish workers infused with Vacon’s strong know-how.

Vacon employs about 730 people in Finland and 1,600 people worldwide, said Yle.
