The government has allowed mobile network operators DNA and TeliaSonera to go ahead with their planned construction of the joint network in the northern and eastern parts of the country.
 
According to the government, the companies can construct a joint mobile network and also spectrum in the 900 and 1800 MHz bands.
 
The new venture “Suomen Yhteisverkko Oy” by the two operators will allow for more efficient build-out and operation of radio networks in an area making up 50 per cent of Finland’s total territory in which approximately 15 per cent of its population live.

The government said the joint network will enable more speedy and comprehensive data transmission services especially in the rural area.
 
DNA and TeliaSonera have promised that the joint network company will speed up the coverage of the 4G network throughout the country in almost a year
 
The venture will be jointly controlled and equally governed by the consensus principle with Sonera owning 51 per cent and DNA 49 per cent of the company.
