In the second quarter, the number of enterprise closures was up by 28.5 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter of the year before.
Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most in professional, scientific and technical activities while enterprise closures were most in trade, the data show.
There were 6,166 enterprise openings in the third quarter of 2014 while the number was 6,781 in the third quarter of 2013 as per the statistics.
Enterprise openings accounted for 1.8 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the second quarter of 2014.
