About 80 percent of the travelling troupe brought alcohol to the country from Estonia, according to a passenger survey report.

The survey said that Finns made approximately 2.5 million trips to neighbouring Estonia during the year 2014.

Based on the survey, Finns imported 64 million litres of alcohol from Estonia last year.

Approximately 32 million litres of beer was imported making it the highest imported alcoholic beverage from Estonia.

The alcohol import included about 9 million litres of cider and 11 million litres of litres of long drink while other alcoholic beverages accounted to approximately 4.5 million litres.

Imported spirits by travellers to Estonia stood at 4.5 million litres.

Huge import of alcohol was, however, concentrated within a small group of travellers.

Only five percent of the passengers accounted for 49 percent of all alcoholic beverages imported by travellers from Estonia.

Over 3,700 passengers travelling on cruise ships between February and December were interviewed during the survey.

The survey was commissioned by the Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation, ETL, Finnish Hospitality Association, Service Union United PAM, Finnish brewing and soft drinks industry, Finnish Grocery Trade Association (PTY) and the Association of Finnish Alcoholic Beverage Suppliers (SAJK).

The survey was conducted by research and analysis centre Tutkimus- ja Analysointikeskus-TAK Oy.
