The venture for the fifth-generation network that enables high-speed wireless transfer of data will be done in cooperation with businesses and will provide an outlet to develop and test the performance of technologies.
The test network will comprise of two parts -- a closed network at VTT's premises and a public network at Oulu University.
Companies can test technological activities in the closed network while the public network is envisioned to be an open test environment for all interested parties.
Furthermore, there is a plan to expand the network to cover different parts of the city.
According to researchers, the test network will cement the country's position at the fore-front of 5G network development internationally.
