Number of passengers rises but revenue declines
FTimes – STT Report, Feb 20

Cruise ferry company Viking Line last year benefited from low price of fuel which saved the company more than five million euros.

On the contrary, passenger-related revenue declined by 25 million euros to nearly 484 million euros, despite the slight increase in the number of passengers.

According to the company, the drop in the income was due to price competition and change in consumer behaviour.

The company’s operating profit shrank last year to 13.7 million euros compared to 34.7 million euros in the previous year.

The pre-tax profit however improved by almost five million euros to 32.2 million euros, whereas net sales dropped by four per cent to 527 million euros.

The company expects this year’s operating profit to improve from last year’s figures. The development in the fuel price is, however, a huge factor.
