Traffic along the border crossing points fell in 2014 compared to the previous year, said the Finnish Customs when it released its annual summary on Monday.
 
In total, the volume of border traffic fell by 2 percent in 2014. Although the volume along the eastern border fell substantially, the volume of traffic at the Port of Helsinki increased.
 
Incoming vessels at the Port of Helsinki increased by three percent last year, whereas the departing vessels increased by four percent.
 
Along the eastern border, the volume of arriving traffic fell by nine percent, while the departures dropped by seven percent.
 
Similarly, loaded trucks traffic fell by 11 percent at the eastern border crossing points last year.
 
On the other hand, traffic increased at the Norwegian and Swedish land borders. The increase of loaded truck traffic at the Norwegian border alone was 14 percent.
