Industrial production in the euro zone fell 0.9 percent in January compared with the previous month, according to estimates released Tuesday from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU).

A fall of 1.2 percent was seen in the industrial producer price in the 28-member EU in January, compared with December 2014.

On an annual basis, industrial producer prices decreased 3.4 percent in the euro area and 4.1 percent in the EU.

The 0.9 percent decrease in the euro area was due to falls of 3.2 percent in the energy sector, 0.5 percent for intermediate goods and 0.2 percent for non-durable consumer goods, while prices rose by 0.2 percent for capital goods and 0.3 percent for durable consumer goods.

In January, industrial producer prices fell in nearly all EU member states, with the largest decreases observed in the Netherlands, Lithuania, Britain and Ireland.
