According to Finnwatch, the company does not explain the working conditions of its contractors as systematically and comprehensively as it is meant to be understood.
 
One contractor, according to the report was approved as a supplier despite lack of audit on its working conditions.
 
Finnwatch evaluated the operations of Wärtsilä in India and Mozambique.
 
One of Wärtsilä contractors in India, Echjay Forgings received a lot of criticism in the report. Workers at the plant who were interviewed spoke of poor working conditions.
 
Some of the interviewed workers claimed they receive meagre payment and had no holidays.
 
Many of the workers revealed they lived in dirty accommodation offered by the plant which had no adequate sanitation.
 
Echjay Forgings is reported to have threatened Finnwatch with legal action if it goes ahead and publishes the report.
 
Echjay Forgings has dismissed all the allegations.
