The European Union member states on Wednesday decided to delay the abolishing of roaming charges of mobile phones until 2018.
The roaming charges vary substantially across the member states which have led to complains from travellers concerning unreasonably high phone call charges.
Even though roaming charges will be completely removed, the intention is to regulate the prices in order for consumers to make and receive phone calls and text messages, as well as use data services at cost similar to what is charged domestically.
Originally the abolishing of roaming charges was expected to come into effect at the end of 2015.
