Fri, 24 Apr, 2015 12:01:57 AM FTimes Report, April 24 File Photo - Lehtikuva. The unemployment rate was 10.3 per cent in March 2015, having been 9.5 per cent during the corresponding month in the year before, according to Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey.
The number of unemployed persons was 272,000, which was 21,000 higher than in March 2014.
The unemployment rate in January to March was 9.7 per cent, which was 0.7 percentage points higher than in the respective quarter of 2014.
In March 2015, the number of employed persons was 2,382,000, which was 10,000 lower than a year earlier.
There were 8,000 more employed men and 17,000 fewer employed women than in March 2014.
The number of employed persons decreased in the private sector, but grew in the public sector compared with March 2014.
In March, the employment rate, that is, the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64, was 66.8 per cent, which was the same as one year earlier.
The employment rate for men grew by 0.7 percentage points from last year’s March to 67.6 per cent. The employment rate for women fell by 0.6 percentage points to 66.0 per cent.

Men’s unemployment rate was 11.3 per cent and women’s 9.2 per cent. The trend of the unemployment rate was 9.4 per cent.
In March, there were a total of 647,000 young people aged 15 to 24. Of them, 232,000 were employed and 89,000 unemployed. Thus, the labour force of young people, employed and unemployed, totalled 320,000.
In the first quarter of 2015, the average number of employed persons was 2,391,000, or 3,000 fewer than in the corresponding quarter of 2014.
The number of hours worked by employed persons was 1.1 per cent lower in the first quarter of 2015 than in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, according to the statistics.
The average number of unemployed persons in the first quarter of 2015 was 257,000, which was 19,000 more than in the January to March period of 2014.
The unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2015 was 9.7 per cent, which was 0.7 percentage points higher than in the respective period of 2014.
In the first quarter of 2015, the number of persons in the inactive population was 1,452,000, which was 8,000 lower than a year earlier.
Of the inactive population, 132,000 persons were in disguised unemployment, which was 5,000 fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014.
At the end of March 2015, there were altogether 347,000 persons registered in accordance with the Employment Office Regulations as unemployed job seekers at the employment and economic development offices.
The number of unemployed job seekers was 31,000 higher than in last year's March.
Unemployment increased from the previous year's March in all the areas.
Employment and Economic Development Centres except for Kainuu (-1%); recorded most of the job seekers in Uusimaa (15%), Ostrobothnia (13%), Satakunta (12%), North Savo (12%) and South Ostrobothnia (10%).
At the end of March, the number of temporarily laid off persons registered at the employment and economic development offices was 32,000, which was 3,000 more than twelve months earlier.
The number of persons engaged in services included in the activation rate totalled 129,000 at the end of March, which was the same as in March of the year before.
Altogether, 4.9 per cent of the labour force was covered by labour market policy services.
