The Japanese automaker Honda Motor Co. on Thursday unveiled its light business jet, HondaJet, at Tokyo's Haneda airport for the first time in Japan and held a ceremony to mark the start of the jet's world tour.

The light jet is about 13 meters in length, with two engines on top of its wings. The plane boasts energy efficiency and can fly at a cruising speed of 778 kilometers per hour, according to Honda.

"Our HondaJet is the world's most advanced small business jet in terms of energy efficiency and flight comfort," Honda Aircraft Co. President Michimasa Fujino was quoted at the ceremony.

The business jet can seat up to seven people, including the pilot.  "Honda is proudly presenting HondaJet, equipped with the HF120 GE Honda new-generation turbofan engine, which will carve out a new set of standards for the performance and comfort of a light business jet," said Takanobu Ito, president of Honda Motor Co., on Honda's website.

The company has received orders for more than 100 HondaJets in the United States and Europe, with a price tag of 4.5 million U.S. dollars for each, according to Honda.

The HondaJet is scheduled to travel more than 48,000 km in total in its world tour, while stopping in more than 13 countries to conduct flight demonstrations at multiple cities in Japan and Europe.
