The number of enterprise openings decreased by 8.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2014 from the respective quarter of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.
 
In the third quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise closures was up by 16.6 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter of the year before.
 
Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in professional, scientific and technical activities and enterprise closures were most numerous in trade.
 
Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings and closures was highest in Uusimaa.
 
There were 5,680 enterprise openings in the fourth quarter of 2014. Enterprise openings accounted for 1.7 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the fourth quarter of 2014, the data show.
 
Examined by industry, the enterprise openings in professional, scientific and technical activities numbered 962, or 16.9 per cent of all enterprise openings in the fourth quarter.
 
In trade, enterprise openings numbered 922 or 16.2 per cent, and in construction 635 or 11.2 per cent.
 
The number of enterprise openings was 2,156 in the fourth quarter of 2014 in Uusimaa. The next highest number was in Varsinais-Suomi (541) and in Pirkanmaa (502).

Examined by sub-regional unit, in the fourth quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,025), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (417) and Turku (375).
 
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, enterprise openings increased most in the sub-regional unit of Lahti (18) and decreased most in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (-206).
 
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in Helsinki (1,102), followed by Espoo (308), Tampere (291), Vantaa (227) and Turku (212).
 
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, enterprise openings increased most in Tampere (21) and decreased most in Helsinki (-104).
 
Examined by legal form, in the fourth quarter of 2014, enterprise openings of the form of natural person numbered 2,579 and those of the form of limited company 2,556.
 
Enterprise openings of the form of natural person accounted for 45.4 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 45.0 per cent of all enterprise openings.
 
There were 6,000 enterprise closures in the third quarter of 2014. Enterprise closures accounted for 1.8 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the third quarter of 2014, according to the statistics.
 
Examined by industry, the number of closures was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,121, or 18.7 per cent of all enterprise closures in the third quarter.
 
In construction, enterprise closures numbered 986 and in professional, scientific and technical activities 916.
 
Examined by region, the number of enterprise closures was highest in Uusimaa (2,364). 
 
The number of enterprise closures was next highest in Varsinais-Suomi (548) and Pirkanmaa (530). Relative to the enterprise stock, Uusimaa had the most enterprise closures (2.1%).  
 
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise closures were recorded in the third quarter of 2014 in Helsinki (1,228), followed by Espoo (307), Tampere (250), Turku (231) and Vantaa (218).
 
Examined by legal form, in the third quarter of 2014, enterprise closures of the form of natural person numbered 2,973 and those of the form of limited company 2,362.
 
Enterprise closures of the form of natural person accounted for 49.6 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 39.4 per cent of all enterprise closures.
