The participation of immigrants in innovative activities will reinforce the country's competitiveness and increase in internationalization of businesses, according to a Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
 
The report also stated that innovation also offers many immigrants a path to the labour market.
 
The report emphasizes that from an industrial policy perspective, immigrants are a resource which increase Finland's competitiveness and welfare.
 
"For instance, start-up activities offers enormous growth possibilities and in many of start-up accelerators, half of those participating in entrepreneurial activities are immigrants," Erkki Virtanen, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
 
By supporting measures that combine migration policy and innovation Finland can increasingly take advantage of the participative innovation and expertise of immigrants, Virtanen added.
 
The finding was examined by the ministry's integration expertise centre. 
 
The objective of the report is to offer a new perspective on the immigration and integration policy mainly concerned with social, employment and education policy challenges.
