Turnover in manufacturing in the December to February period was good three per cent lower than in the corresponding period of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.
Domestic sales contracted by 4.5 per cent and export turnover by 2.4 per cent from one year ago.
Turnover went down from the corresponding period of the previous year in nearly all manufacturing sub-industries.
Turnover contracted most in the chemical industry, by 15.7 per cent, in the electrical and electronics industry, by 7.1 per cent, and in the textile, clothing and leather industry, by 4.3 per cent.
Only the metal industry generated slightly more turnover than in the year before, 0.4 per cent.

The turnover in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply contracted by 1.7 per cent, in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities by 2.6 per cent, and in mining and quarrying activities by 4.1 per cent year-on-year.
The index of turnover in industry describes enterprises whose main industry is manufacturing.
The calculation of the indices is based on the Tax Administration’s value added tax data which are supplemented with data obtained with Statistics Finland’s sales inquiry.
The monthly turnovers of manufacturing enterprises can vary considerably, especially in the metal industries. The variation is mainly due to invoicing practices.
