More than half of Finnish people seem to believe that the requirements set by the young for summer work in terms of salary and meaningfulness are great, found a survey conducted t by the Slot Machine Association (RAY).

The results are may be a case of prejudice, remarks Jari-Pekka Hietasilta from RAY’s Paikka auki, youth employment promotion programme, referring to last year’s research: “Young people are resilient with regard to jobs. More than half will accept any work, and their salary request is reasonable. The most important thing is to get out there and work.”

Parents of those looking for summer employment feel more strongly that finding summer jobs is more difficult for young people.

Almost half of the respondents who have had summer work have received employment opportunities from the same employer.

The IRO research telephone survey was answered in May by one thousand Finns.
