The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the 19-member eurozone was 11.1 percent in April 2015, down from the 11.2 percent in March 2015 and the 11.7 percent in April 2014, the European Union (EU) said Wednesday.
     
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in the 28-member EU was 9.7 percent in April 2015, same as the previous month and lower than the 10.3 percent in April 2014, said Eurostat, the statistical office of EU.
     
Eurostat estimated that 23.504 million men and women in the EU, of whom 17.846 million are in the eurozone, were unemployed in April 2015.
     
Among the member states, the lowest unemployment rate in April 2015 was recorded in Germany while the highest was in Greece and Spain.
     
Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate fell in 22 member states, increased in 6. The largest decreases were registered in Spain, Lithuania and Ireland, while increases were registered in Belgium, Romania, Austria, France, Croatia and Finland.
     
In April 2015, the unemployment rate for the young people aged below 25 was 20.7 percent in the EU and 22.3 percent in the eurozone, compared with 22.5 percent and 23.9 percent respectively in April 2014.  
     
The unemployment rate of young people in Greece stood at 50.1 percent, followed by 49.6 percent in Spain.
