In practice, the company will dismiss 182 employees while 74 employees will not have their fixed-term contracts renewed. Another 45 people will retire while 38 employees will leave by their own initiative, said Valio Communications Director Pia Kontunen.
The statutory negotiations covered 13 places of work as well as some operations at Valio’s head office.
According to Kontunen, the redundancies will be evenly distributed among all the places where the company has operations. Valio has operations in Haapavesi, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Lapinlahti, Oulu, Riihimäki,Seinäjoki, Suonenjoki, Tampere, Turenki, Vantaa, Äänekoski, and Helsinki.
Valio cited the closure of the Russian market following the embargo imposed on Russia as the biggest reason for the redundancies.
