The main harvesting season of strawberries growing in the open fields in southern Finland will begin in a little over two weeks time, according to the agricultural expert organisation ProAgria.

The harvesting season in central and eastern Finland is not expected until mid-July.

The cold weather in June has delayed the start of the harvesting season.

However, chilly conditions prolong flowering; therefore, the harvesting season stretches for a long period.

A normal strawberry harvest is expected during this season.

On the other hand, the harvest for strawberries grown in greenhouses and tunnels has already begun at the beginning of the month.

In most parts of the country, the planting season of strawberries, cereals crops and early vegetables is expected to be 10-14 days behind the normal schedule.

Completion of sowing work was delayed due to rains, and part of the fields was left completely unsown or the cereal crops had to be replaced.

Harvest of early potatoes has already kicked off during the midsummer.

The harvest of early potatoes, however, remained below the normal harvest and was also of lower quality.
