The deadline for fulfilling the conditions of the construction licence application for Hanhikivi 1, the Fennovoima nuclear power plant, is next week, on Tuesday 30 June 2015, said an official press release.

This is based on the government Decision-In-Principle ratified by the Parliament in December 2014.

"The stock exchange release issued by Fortum Oyj on Wednesday does not in any way change the timetable of the Government or the Ministry or any other grounds for the decision. The deadlines for fulfilling the mentioned conditions are the same as before," said Minister of Economic Affairs Olli Rehn.

The role of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy is to assess whether the conditions of the construction licence are fulfilled regarding the overall good of society and especially the 60 percent share of domestic ownership.

"In accordance with the government Decision-In-Principle, ensuring the degree of national ownership is a question of protecting an extremely important national interest that will guarantee the controllability of Finland's energy policy and consequently the general security of the energy supply in our country," Rehn said.

"The condition regarding the degree of domestic ownership is in a key position as we are assessing how the will clearly expressed by the Government and the Parliament will be fulfilled. It measures how worthwhile the project is in terms of the overall good of the Finnish society and energy efficiency," the minister added.
