Former mobile phone giant Nokia has confirmed its plan to return to the market with a new mobile phone.

The new mobile phone could enter the market in the end of 2016 and could once again be manufactured in Nokia's own brand name.

According to the plan, the company would be responsible in designing and branding of the mobile phone.

A statement issued by Nokia on Monday said the return to the mobile phone market will entail identifying a partner that can be responsible for all the manufacturing, sales, marketing and customer support for a product.

Nokia which is currently focused on network business sold its mobile phone operations to Microsoft last year.

OP Pohjola analyst Hannu Rauhala was not surprised by the company's revelation since Nokia had earlier hinted on the return to the phone market.

According to Rauhala, there is no risk involved in Nokia-brand licensing to a suitable mobile phone manufacturer.

“All that may possibly accrue is additional money to the company's current business operations. If the phone manufacturer is able to sell the phones then Nokia gets the share of the sale," said Rauhala.

According to Rauhala, if no extra euro is gained then Nokia will not at all incur big costs.
