FTimes – STT Report, Aug 6

A record number of postal deliveries have been stolen this year en route to delivery, reported a Finnish language daily, Savon Sanomat.

The thefts have been concentrated mainly in the capital city region.

So far this, 37 cases of postal theft have been detected.

The bicycles used to make deliveries have no locks, but ones which would have locks are to be delivered.

For their part, the distribution carts have locks but still deliveries have been stolen from the carts.

According to Sami Reponen from the postal and logistic services operator Posti, the number of postal thefts is not huge, but every incident is taken seriously.

According to the law, Posti is held accountable if the shipment is lost before it is delivered to the recipient.

As a precondition for the compensation, the shipment must be proved to be lost while it was in Posti’s possession.

Posti notifies any theft of mail to the recipients and reports the incident to the police.
