Finnish Refugee Council, a development cooperation organisation, on Monday announced the beginning of co-determination negotiations.
 
The organisation which specialises in refugee work internationally cited the government cuts in development cooperation aid as the reasons for the commencement of the negotiations.
 
The redundancy need in Finland is estimated at a maximum of five employees. Furthermore, the cuts will have an impact on 65 locally recruited employees.
 
According to the organisation, the cuts will impact greatly on the refugees in the target countries.
 
Annu Lehtinen, the executive director of the Finnish Refugee Council in a statement said the implication of the cuts is estimated to affect over 30,000 refugees.
 
According to Lehtinen, there is need for a donations now, since humanitarian crises around the world is greater now than ever.
 
Similarly, another development cooperation agency, Fida, and former president Martti Ahtisaari’s organisation, Crisis Management Initiative, have announced the initiation of co-determination talks following the slash of development aid by the government.
