Trade union Akava has urged its affiliate unions to raise their preparedness for industrial action.

In a statement, the union warned that it must prepare for various measures if it is not possible to negotiate with the government.

The union said its board which met on Wednesday afternoon still wants constructive engagement with the government and is still ready to discuss the five per cent competitive leap.

The union said it has been ready since the beginning of spring to discuss the social contract and this readiness is still valid. Akava said its members understand that the nation’s economy needs to be improved and unemployment slowed down.

The union also said that it has been ready for structural reforms in accordance with its previous stance. Instead of threats and policy of dictation, Akava said it hopes to continue in the path of agreement and trust, but due to the chosen culture of dictation, the board of Akava has decided to urge its unions to raise their preparedness for industrial actions.
