The Government in a meeting with the Economic Council on Wednesday discussed the measures it had proposed to improve growth and competitiveness.

The main part of the critical feedback received relates to enforcing mandatory legislative changes. Following the termination of the social contract negotiations, the Government decided to present alternative measures, according to a press release of the Government Communications Department issued on Wednesday.

The aim of the social contract was to improve cost-competitiveness, but the parties did not reach an agreement on the Government Programme objective.

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä emphasised that cooperation with the social partners will continue.

“In this serious situation that Finland is faced with, cooperation and joint responsibility by all parties is necessary,” Sipilä said.

The Government will continue to prepare the proposed measures as planned.

The measures are to be submitted to Parliament in the form of a government statement by the end of September 2015.
