Poor allocation disappoints MTK
FTimes – STT Report, Sep 16

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry revealed on Tuesday that the European Union has granted approximately nine million euros in emergency funding to the country’s hard-hit agricultural sector.

The funding is aimed at alleviating the impact of the import ban imposed by Russia on food products as well as the market-related problems faced by farmers.

The ministry said the aid package will be discussed with the producers.

The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK), however, criticised the amount of allocation extended to the country.

MTK believes the European Commission does not fully understand the impact of the Russian ban on Finnish farms.

According to MTK, the Finnish agricultural sector has lost 400 million euros due to disruption of the market.

The EU previously granted the country’s dairy sector alone 10.7 million euros.

The effects of the Russian import ban are especially visible in dairy and pork production.
