Three months' year-on-year change in turnover in manufacturing (C) sub-industries (TOL 2008). Source: Index of turnover in industry 2015, June, Statistics Finland.
Turnover in manufacturing in the April to June period was 4.9 per cent lower than in the corresponding period of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.

Domestic sales contracted by 2.5 per cent and export turnover by 6.6 per cent from one year ago.

The turnover contracted in nearly all manufacturing sub-industries.

The drop was fastest in the chemical industry, 23.5 per cent, in the electrical and electronics industry, 8.8 per cent, and in the food industry, 6.6 per cent as per the data.

Slightly more turnover than in the previous year was generated only in the forest industry, 1.4 per cent, and in the metal industry, 0.9 per cent.

In the other main categories of other industries, the turnover of water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities grew by 5.1 per cent from one year ago.

The turnover, in turn, contracted from the previous year in the industry of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 4.6 per cent and in mining and quarrying, by 6.4 per cent, the statistics show.

The index of turnover in industry describes enterprises whose main industry is manufacturing.

The calculation of the indices is based on the Tax Administration’s value added tax data which are supplemented with data obtained with Statistics Finland’s sales inquiry.

The monthly turnovers of manufacturing enterprises can vary considerably, especially in the metal industries.

The variation is mainly due to invoicing practices.
