FTimes- Xinhua Report Sept. 26

A five-hour fire of Coca Cola warehouse has caused an estimated loss of more than 1.1 billion kyats (855,000 U.S. dollars) in damage, said an official report Friday.

The fire broke out on Thursday morning, leaving one firefighter injured, said the report.

More than 400 firefighters with 45 fire engines rushed to the scene before the fire was put out in the afternoon, the report said.

There was no one in the warehouse when the fire broke out, eyewitnesses said.

The Coca Cola warehouse storing raw materials such as plastic pellets used in making the soft drink bottles is located in the industrial zone in Yangon's Mingaladon township.

The fire lasted for so long because the muddy scene was not easily accessible despite presence of dozens of fire engines, the report said.

Coca Cola re-entered Myanmar and opened its bottling plant in Hmawby township in Yangon in June 2013 after it withdrew from the country for more than six decades.
