The total value added of enterprises' establishments went down to EUR 88.3 billion in 2014, marking a fall by EUR 5.9 billion from the year before, according to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data.  
 
The value added of the service sector was EUR 38.5 billion. Altogether, services generated 43.6 per cent of the country’s total value added.
 
Regionally, production focused on Uusimaa where value added amounted to EUR 34.6 billion. Uusimaa's proportion of the total value added was 39 per cent.
 
Production in Uusimaa declined by EUR 3.5 billion from the previous year, which explains part of the 59 per cent drop in value added in the whole country.
 
The service sector's proportion of the EUR 34.6 billion value added generated in Uusimaa was 56 per cent. The value added of the service sector in Uusimaa was EUR 19.3 billion, which also declined by EUR 842 million from 2013, the statistics show.

The value added measures the total value added produced by the various factors of production in an establishment’s actual operating activities.
 
The value added is calculated by deducting the costs of operating activities from the income from the activities. Costs exclude the costs related to the establishment's personnel.
