Talking to the Finnish language tabloid Iltalehtion on Saturday, Soini said the government has not talked about the matter, and it’s not part of the government programme, so one can assume the issue is not moving forward.
However, Soini said he has not yet discussed the matter with Finance Minister Alexander Stubb, so he did not wish to comment.
“In the past, I have evaluated [the registry] critically. The timing of it is not very good, what with everything that is going on now.”
The Ministry of Finance advocated on Friday in support of the shareholder registry, which would allow shareholders to hide their assets abroad. Soini was in New York at the UN General Assembly.
