Fri, 09 Oct, 2015 12:02:15 AM FTimes – STT Report, Oct 9 File Photo – AFP / Lehtikuva. The Korean electronics giant LG is set to open a research and development unit in the coastal town of Turku.
The research unit in Turku is planned to explore the 5G radio technology and other expanding technological sectors.
According to LG, initially the research and development unit will employ around 50 persons, over 90 per cent of whom are engineers.
“We believe that the LG laboratory in Finland will grow fast through the development of the sector,” Ken Hong, the global communications director at LG told news agency STT.
The LG centre will be based on Turku’s Electro City premises. LG said it selected the site for the establishment of the unit because the area boasts expertise in radio technology and also because industries specialised in wireless data transfer have operated in the area.
LG plans long-term investment at the unit in Turku.
There is available workforce in the country following huge redundancies carried out by Nokia.
