The value of new orders in manufacturing was 25.3 per cent higher in August 2015 than twelve months earlier due to a few large orders in the metal industry, according to Statistics Finland.  
 
The orders grew by 9.0 per cent year-on-year during January to August.
 
New orders in manufacturing grew in August as the strongest growth was in the metal industry, where the value of orders was 39.5 per cent up on the year before, the data show.
 
In the metal industry, orders increased particularly due to new orders in the shipbuilding industry.
 
The orders increased by 1.4 per cent year-on-year in the chemical industry.

New orders in the manufacture of paper, and paper and board products decreased by 2.0 per cent from one year ago.
 
The orders remained at previous year's level in the textile industry.  The index of new orders in manufacturing describes development in the value of new orders received by enterprises for commodities and services that are meant to be produced by establishments located in Finland.
 
These statistics are based on non-probability sampling, in which the basic observation unit is an enterprise or a kind-of-activity unit. The sample comprises monthly 400 to 450 enterprises or their kind-of-activity units.
